Secondary Level Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa Teacher Preparation and Support Overview Report

This overview report draws together the findings of a study on the education of secondary school teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). the study is comprised of: a review of the international literature on teacher education, both initial teacher education (ITE) and continuing professional development (CPD), a market scan of the practices in the 48 SSA countries, four in-depth case studies, and this overview report. This report is concerned with how SSA countries should best address the twin challenges of increasing both the quantity and quality of secondary school teachers over the next two decades and beyond
